Day N3 - Saturday July 26th

DERAILED!!!

I knew it was bound to happen. I wasn't fully prepared with food, mentality etc to hop right back into another year. I crashed. We were at a friends wedding (which I kinda forgot we were going to) food, a few adult bevvies, a cupcake or two...you get the idea. It hasn't been an all out cheatfest but I still had a sandwich or two I wanted to experience before I said goodbye again for another year.

Anyways time for a reset. I am going no excuses Monday Aug 4th. Why wait till then? Plain and simple preparation. I need to get the right foods in my house again and get items pre cooked and ready to go. I don't want to start again and then just make a silly choice.

There is a lesson to be learned here though which I already new, but guess I just needed a reminder of; When you stumble, learn from your mistakes and come back stronger!

I'll see you all next week with a better grasp on this!

DAY N3 INCOMPLETE
Day N2 - Friday July 25th

Info:Of course going in to the weekend I would get behind on the updates. After the hand rip yesterday I took today as a rest day and just walked.

Food Log:

Breakfast: Steak, green beans and black olives

Lunch: Steak, green beans and hot sauce

Dinner: Giant chicken salad with some shredded feta on it, hot sauce

Snack:  Frozen yogurt (cheat meal alert)

Daily Totals: 2057 cals, 103g fat, 167g carb, 23g fiber, 61g sugar, 119g Protein

Exercise:

Walk

Details: Just walked a nice leisurely walk around the neighborhood. Was pretty uneventful until the mosquito horde figured out where I was.

Results: Walked 2.5miles and gained about 15 mosquito bites. Note: Use bug spray next time!

It wasn't this bad, but it sure felt like it!

DAY N2 COMPLETE

Friday, July 25, 2014

Day N1 - Thursday July 24th

Info: So begins the Next360 - Follow along as I focus on fitness and activity while maintaining a good clean diet. Here's to some drastic changes over the next year!

I am also going to be monitoring my meals a little closer so I can make calculated adjustments if I need to. So you will see a cumulative report of Calories, carbs etc following the food logs.

Day 1 of the Next360: 24% BF, 193.4 lbs

Food Log:

Breakfast: Steak, mushrooms and onions sauteed in coconut oil

Lunch: I ate breakfast really late so I was not hungry for lunch.

Dinner: Steak, mushrooms and onions sauteed in coconut oil with a cup of broccoli added in.

Snack:  1 cup of leftover broccoli and 1oz of Almonds

Daily Totals: 1166 Calories, 60g Fat, 42g Carbohydrates, 9g Fiber, 16g Sugar, 117g Protein

Exercise:

The Hammer

Details:
25 x 16lb sledge hammer swings on my giant tractor tire. 1 rep = 2 swings (1 right handed, 1 left handed)
Time is 15 minutes to complete as many reps as possible.

My goal was to get my 25 swings in unbroken and then rest for a minute between sets. This should get me through at least 5 sets with a 1 minute rest in between.

Results: I made it through 4 sets complete with about 15 seconds to spare. The rests were more like 2 minutes in between towards the 3rd and 4th sets. Made it through the sets unbroken on my swings but by the 2nd set I was starting to gas and really slow down. By the 3rd and 4th sets I was a turtle. Then on the 3rd or 4th swing in the 4th set I ripped my palm open which slowed be down some more. Good starting workout though, I will repeat as well as use it as a finishing workout later on.

It's a small injury but man does it hurt!

DAY N1 COMPLETE

Whole360 Results

I took a few days off, ate like a pig made myself feel sick and got that out of my system! Now I have a list of the results for you, at least everything I could track and have on hand. I recently had blood work done too and it came back nearly perfect. I didn't have blood work done before I started the Whole360, but I can almost guarantee it was not OK.

So here are the numbers that I measured and what I am at at the end of the Whole360:

Bodyfat Percentage:

Start: 36% (estimate off pictures) Now: 24% - loss of 12%

Weight:

Start: 235.6lbs, Now: 190.3lbs - loss of 45.3lbs

The Reflection:

I am not ashamed of these numbers and the changes I have made. But I would have liked better results. I have no excuses for that and no one to blame but myself. A year ago when I started this I envisioned a solid 6 pack - not one just creeping out, more muscle tone and a little more weight loss. Yes I made some big changes but the exercise and activity level just wasn't where it should have been. Some of it was from back issues, I have battled those all the way through this, but a lot of it was just because I wasn't focused on fitness and activity. That is going to change!

Whats Next:
I am starting the Next360! Over the next year I am going to focus on what I missed over the first year - activity and fitness. This will be much like the Whole360 except I already have the habit of a great diet burned in so I don't need to focus on that as much. My focus will be daily activities, fitness, getting stronger and leaner! There will be a few different rules I am going to follow this time;

Whole360 Meal planning: - I am keeping with the Whole360 meal theme - but 2 with cheat MEALS allowed in a months time. So what does that mean? It means I can have a piece of cheese or an adult beverage during 2 occurrences per month. Notice I didn't say cheat days, but MEALS. I still want a firm handle on what I put in to my body, but I am going slightly less strict this time through!

Activity: - I pledge to be active daily for the next year. With 5 days of the week being dedicated to actual workouts. By workouts I mean a structured planned event (CrossFit, gym, sprints, etc). By daily activity I mean at least a decent walk of 2-3 miles if not more. Off days shouldn't mean sit on the couch and veg out, they just mean you are off from "rigorous" exercise. Exceptions being sick, injured so badly I can't move, or I'm dead. Other than those qualifying items I am not letting myself off the hook!

Stay tuned, the Next360 starts........NOW!!!

And as always here are a few pictures of what I looked like at the start of the Whole360 (far right) and what I look like today (left)

Day 363 - Saturday July 19th

Info: It's getting close and I'm actually nervous! I want to say thanks to all of you that have offered me support and that have stopped by to read this blog. Seriously without knowing you guys are out there I would not have been able to complete this!

The "getting my food right" portion of the Wole360 is coming to a close, but stay tuned, I have decided to challenge myself over another Whole360 and really focus on the fitness. Back issues, straight up being lazy has limited my results though this Whole360, but that's all about to change! I will lay out what I am going to do over the next few days and need your help sticking to it!

Day 362 - Friday July 18th

Info: Going forward with what I'm planning for the next year - I've got the diet and eating down to pretty much an exact science at this point. Next up is fitness and building a solid habit with that. So I will be continuing this blog (with some cool coming changes) but my focus is going to be much more on the fitness side of things than the diet and tweaking that. I'll still be posting recipes and all that good stuff, so if you enjoyed that stay tuned, also I will be posting a lot more transformation pictures because I want to document how my body changes when I add in regular workouts/activities to what I am already doing.  I will also be using more supplements in the next 360, I have been kind of experimenting here and there with them now and I can say I have found what I will be using throughout my journey from now on! So stay tuned for the next 360!

Great Place to Start!

DAY 362 COMPLETE

Friday, July 18, 2014

Day 361 -Thursday July 17th

Info: I had the worst craving for burritos, but know I can't have them, so I fell back on some of my heritage and made something similar to a burrito, but totally Paleo complaint...Golobkis! For those of you that don't know what that is, they also go by "Pigs in a blanket", "cabbage rolls", and "golumpkis". Generally its sausage and ground beef with rice wrapped in a cabbage leaf and roasted in the oven. Obviously I had some work to do to Paleo it, but what i ended up with was glorious! I mixed ground beef, pork and some spices and then made cauliflower rice to sub in for the regular rice. Wrapped them all up and put them in a roasting pan. What happened next will is MIND BLOWING... (sorry had to, seems everything on the internet these days will blow your mind) I made a Paleo enchilada sauce and baked the Golobkis in that instead of the traditional tomato sauce. I hate tomatoes anyways so this was a mega win for me! these turned out great, and I know know that I can make a Paleo enchilada sauce that rivals regular enchilada sauce!

The only thing was making these from scratch took a lot of dishes......I DESTROYED my kitchen!

What have I done???

Food Log:
I made awesome, that's what I've done!

Breakfast: 3 egg scramble and some carrot stick

Lunch: 2 Golobkis with sauce

Dinner: 3 Golobkis with sauce

Snack:  none

Exercise: none

DAY 361 COMPLETE

Day 360 -Wednesday July 16th

Info: Been doing a lot of thinking on what I want to achieve and whats to come over the next year. I've decided one of the things I want to make sure I do is not fall back in to my old ways. So the next year of the Whole360 project I will be following almost the same type of diet, but I will allow 1-2 "cheat" meals in a month if I am craving a particular something. Possibly not even cheat meals, but something like "Oh a piece of cheese on my burger sounds great" type thing. Oh yeah and I will be adding Sriracha back in to to my diet. I know it has sugar, but I LOVE Sriracha. And by love sriracha I mean I can tell you the first time I ever saw it, what I ate it on, and how long it was until I got some more...ready? Here it goes!

I was 13 and was at Pheasant Camp (That's what we called weekends during pheasant season in Michigan when I was growing up) and my dad had made eggs for breakfast in his Scotty camper (This is what we stayed in during Pheasant camp, on my grandma's property) someone had bought him this little bottle of hot sauce with a green cap and a rooster on it. I happened to give it a try and was instantly hooked! Problem was in Michigan at the time NO ONE sold it. I still don't know where that bottle had came from but it would be several years before I would see it again. Fast forward 6 years....I am living in Long Beach, CA and I walk in to a cheap Chinese restaurant and it was like an angel had landed on all the tables...giant bottles of the green capped rooster hot sauce everywhere!!!! I promptly stole a bottle since I wasn't sure if I would ever see it again! Later on I contacted the factory and bought a 24 bottle case that lasted a while....now its everywhere and I couldn't be happier!

I have found a couple of sugar free versions I may try, but nothing compares to Huy Fong's Sriracha!

You may be red and green, but you are an Angel for my mouth!!!

Day 354 - Thursday July 10th

Info: Ahhh so sleeping with my NEMS machine cranked makes my muscle pull bearable and I can sleep!!! It reduced the pain by at least 50%! it's still there but I think I am on the road to at least healing faster. That's all I can ask since I'm ancient. What is that rule of recovery? Add 6....years to your recovery time once you hit 30? Something like that!

I made some more slow cooker pork, and this time I subbed in pure cocoa powder to make it like a mole sauce. It's pretty decent with just the slightest hint of coca in it. I'm glad cause I was kind of winging it and I made 5lbs!

Holy Molé!

Day 346 - Wednesday July 2nd

Info: had to go to the lovely DMV today to register our truck, went fast thank god but those trips are always a drag! on to less mundane stuff....I have been going fishing at night with a buddy, kind of scouting out places and just to get out and get some hiking/walking in. I have been skunked 3 nights in a row.....Enter my daughter Raegan. I took her last night with me because buddy couldn't go, and this lake by our house is familiar enough now I felt safe to bring her. We are shore fishing and casting away and my line gets an odd tangle at one of the eyelets on my pole. So as I'm fixing it Raegan is still casting away having a good old time when I hear her squeal "Daddy I think i have something!" I was thinking its probably a snag or something, but when I turned around her rod was zipping all over the place as she was hauling a nice sized bass on the shore! I almost killed myself running over to her across the rocks! Needless to say, it was a solid 12-14" fish! I have never seen her so excited, it was awesome! So this post is dedicated to that, Raegan's first fish, it was a dandy!!!

Sorry its blurry she was jumping up and down LOL

Her mom told her if you catch a fish you have to kiss it on the lips like my dad made me - it's a tradition!

Day 345 - Tuesday July 1st

Checked out Siamese Twins and Balancing rock, the usual stuff. After that it was off to check out some other attractions, we tried to go to Seven Falls but it is closed for renovations.....whatever that means. Didn't realize waterfalls needed renovations! We ended up going to Helen Hunt falls instead which is pretty cool, the most fun was when we went down stream and played in the water for a while! The kids loved it, and that cold water was refreshing! After we got back to the Denver area a buddy of mine decided to go do some night fishing! Didn't catch anything but it was still a lot of fun.

Siamese twin rock formation at Garden of the gods - Pikes Peak in the background
